Opinion Writing, CUBE review and Innovative Solutions to Climate Change and Pollution!

Reminder: Unfortunately Skating has been cancelled due to the sunshine and the community ice rink not being in a suitable state for learning to skate.

If you are able to volunteer for our last session with the Artist in Residence from YMCA on Wednesday March 14th please email me at imlagrana@cbe.ab.ca

If you have not shared your Google Slides with me on Arctic Animal Research (I only have 11 students that have out of 24) please do so by clicking the blue share button and sending it to imlagrana@educbe.ca

OREO WRITING:

Today we continued looking at how we can make our Opinion Writing stronger by making sure that our Reasons are backed up by Evidence/Examples that make sense.

We also looked at some ways to begin OREO writing, start each new reason,  and some ways to conclude our writing:

Today we used computers to add our OREO writing to Google Docs. We will continue to add to our writing by incorporating in transitional words to make our writing more interesting.

Math

Today we did our last red light, yellow light, green light self-assessment for our multi-step word problem that included addition and subtraction and retrieving important information from a written problem as well as charts.

Tomorrow we will practice this again using slightly different numbers but the same multi-step problem.

Ask me what was the hardest part?

Ask me what I learned for next time?

Remembering CUBE helps me break apart a tricky word problem in order to figure out all of the steps:

Social Studies

Today we created a mind map around climate change. We thought of all of the things that we have learned about climate change. We used pictures/sketches and words to demonstrate our thinking. We also looked at causes and effects.

We were then challenged to think of some solutions. What can we do to change/help/alter climate change?

We looked at some kids/teens who are trying to cause positive change and make a difference:

Bye-Bye Plastic Bags!

Maybe you know a young person trying to make a difference or create a solution? Maybe you have an idea to share?
