Arctic Story Writing, Math Subtraction Self-Assessment, International Woman's Day

Arctic Story Writing

Beginnings...

Today we looked at sentence starters to help us write a beginning for our Arctic story, using our StoryBoard Mapping pictures with adjectives and verbs to help us.

When I write a beginning I need to think about:

Who
What
Where
When

We practiced using sentence starters to help us write our beginnings...

We also talked about sentence variety and not starting all of our sentences the same way.

Problem

Next we looked at starting writing about our PROBLEM in the story! Again we used sentence starters to help us write in an exciting way...

What Happened?
Why?
How does your character feel about this?

We looked at some different ways that we could start our problem and then add to it by adding how our character feels about it and why?

Suddenly I heard _____________________

All of a sudden I could smell ___________________________

CRAAAACK!! CRAAACK the sound came again. This time it was louder and sounded closer to me. I looked down and realized...

Off in the distance I could see _________________________

Ask me about my story? What is the most challenging part so far?

Math

Traffic Light Self Assessment

Today we looked at subtraction questions we had done previously using stacking and t-charts and we worked through them and did a quick traffic light assessment with pencil crayons on our individual papers.

This is so powerful to know where I need support, where I am feeling confident and where I am really stuck. Ask me what I noticed when I did the traffic lights for my Subtraction t-chart questions?

International Woman's Day!

Today is International Woman's Day. We read a book called 'Malala's Magic Pencil. We talked about Malala and why she is a Hero and why she was fighting for Woman in Pakistan and has become a symbol of Hope and a Hero.

We did a reflection in our visual sketch book about Malala and how she was brave, determined and smart. Ask me what I remember about the story and what I wonder from reading it? Why is Malala a hero to celebrate on International Woman's Day?
