Summarizing, Retelling and Organizing!

Today we read Chapter 3 and 4 of Charlotte's Web. We sketched Zuckerman's Barn as we listened.

If you would like to listen to the chapters again to solidify understanding please listen to them again here:

Reading

Today we worked on building our understanding or COMPREHENSION of what we are reading. The strategy we practiced today is called Summarize the text; include sequence of main events.

We practiced retelling the who, what, where, when and why of the story/chapter

We used our 4 fingers and 1 thumb as touch points to help us remember when retelling:
WHO
WHAT
WHERE
WHEN
WHY

We can also retell the Beginning, Middle and End.

When I am summarizing a story I should have no less then 3 things and no more then 5.

Math

Today we read the story The Masloppy Family by Catherine Fosnot.

We then had to figure out (in partners) how we could organize our classroom supplies. We had bins of supplies, ziplocs and sticky notes. We had to use these materials to find a way to organize our materials and explain our strategy or thinking behind how we decided to organize.

Ask me how my group decided to organize our materials?

Summarizing/Retelling a story:

We used the strategy of summarizing to retell the important parts of Chapter 4: Lonliness

We wrote in our writing journals the Who, What, Where, When and Why of the Chapter. Ask me if I can retell it to you?
