Scavenger Hunts, Water Quality Scientists and Tally Marks!

Terry Fox Run

We practiced using tally marks to make groups of 5. We then wrote equations using the tally marks to help us figure out totals.

We talked about how we can add numbers easier by making groups of 5. We practiced counting by 5's.

Tomorrow we will try to figure out our Terry Fox Run Total.

Water Quality Scientist

Tomorrow we will all be water quality scientists by testing the downtown Bow River and Prince's Island Wetlands. Please wear rubber boots if you have them!
Information about Water Quality and Water Quality Scientists:

Water is one of the basic necessities of life. For humans, the quality of water used for drinking, food preparation, cleaning, and, not least, hygiene, is critical. Minimum standards of water quality from various sources are mandated across the globe.
A water quality scientist carries out testing and analysis of water obtained from three main sources: groundwater, surface water (lakes, rivers, ponds, etc.), and drinking water.
Daily work activities include collecting and testing water samples using approved biological, chemical and other scientific testing procedures, providing solutions on improving and maintaining water quality, inspecting and reporting on water pollution issues, and providing expert advice on the prevention of pollution, contamination and the safe release of sewage and industrial effluents into local water environments.

Day 3:

Today we explored Prince's Island Park. We did a scavenger hunt in the park. Ask me what things I had to find?

Later in the day we journaled and did a mind map about HOW THE YMCA HELPS THE COMMUNITY? Ask me what I sketched and wrote about for how they help the community of Eau Claire and soon the Community of Royal Oak/Rocky Ridge?
