Wetland Assembly, Jump Rope for Heart and Persuasive Writing!

Wetland Assembly!

The wetland assembly was a success and the weather was so beautiful. We could not have asked for a more perfect day. We heard from the City of Calgary regarding the importance of the wetlands, we cut our ribbon/reed to mark the official opening of our new Wetlands Signage and finally we ended by cleaning up our wetlands and our school field and compound. The good news is ROS School is VERY clean!

To continue in our celebration of Wetlands Week we will be walking to the wetlands for a spring walk and to investigate signs of any small creatures that may be coming out now that the weather is warming up! We will go on Friday from 11:30-12:30. I have 2 Volunteers confirmed but if anyone else is interested please feel free to email me at imlagrana@cba.ab.ca and I will see if there is still room.

JUMP ROPE FOR HEART UPDATE

Hello ROS students, parents and guardians!
Our Heart and Stroke Foundation Jump Rope For Heart Fundraiser is well on its way. Our kick off assembly last week got students excited to participate and we have been skipping everyday since in PE. Students are encouraged to continue collecting pledges until Thursday May 11th when we will have our Jump Rope for Heart Day event. The Jump Event will run from 2-2:30 on the 11th, our entire school will converge in the courtyard to skip, be active and have fun. Students are encouraged to bring their own skipping ropes if they have one to participate in this school wide event. Thank you for your continued support!!
Ms Hennick

We are holding our jump event on Thursday, May11th from 2-2:30. Students will be playing hard during this time and we would like to have a healthy, heart smart snack for them to enjoy after. We are looking for a parent to bring in enough mandarines or orange slices for your child's class to share. If you are able to contribute please contact your child's homeroom teacher. Thank you for your support!

Writing

We have continued to work on our Persuasive writing. We have been reading the book called "I Wanna Iguana" by Karen Kaufman Orloff. It is all about a boy who wants to CONVINCE his mom to get him an Iguana. We have been thinking about what we would want to ask mom/dad for if we could have anything what would we really want to convince them to get us? Now we are practicing our persuasive writing again and this time we have to imagine what mom/dad will say in response to each of our reasons given! We can't wait to share this writing with you.
