Welcome! It has been an exciting and busy beginning of grade 2 here at Royal Oak School!
Welcome introductions were sent out with school Messenger last Friday but this blog will be a big communication tool for our classroom. I will post important reminders, dates, events and small summaries of what we learned and explored as a class. I will post two to three times every week. Please opt in to the blog notifications so that you can recieve an email when I have added anything: http://calgary.schoolmessenger.com/cbe_subscribe
You can email me anytime at imlagrana@cbe.ab.ca with any questions or concerns.
Intro/Feelings
We played some name games and tried to learn each others names. We read the book First Day Jitters by Julie Danneberg and discussed feelings we had about our first day of Grade 2. We talked about something that we were excited for and something that we were nervous about.
We designed name tags for our coat hooks and had a tour of the school. Our classroom is room 24.
Classroom Discussions: Creating a Classroom Community
We played musical chairs and discussed if this was a FAIR way to decide where student's would sit for the year. We discussed whether this was a reasonable way to decide classroom seating. We will continue to explore this idea of FAIR in our classroom throughout the week as we decide our classroom expectations, classroom jobs, classroom supplies and classroom seating plans.
Today we read the book "It's Okay to Be Different" by Todd Parr. We talked abut how everyone is unique and might learn in different ways. Our class (Room 24) worked with Mrs. McDonald's class (Room 4) to think of the way that we each learn best and what helps us to be successful in our learning.
We worked in groups to make a poster about how we learn best and what helps us to be successful learners in the classroom.
Ask me what I think might help me to learn better and what I find helpful when I am learning new things at school.
