Evacuation, Lockdown and IRIS

Reminder: Tomorrow evening from 4:30-8pm and from 8:00 am until 12:00 p.m. It is student centered interviews, which is a chance to meet your child's teacher and share any important information about your child and how they learn best. There is NO SCHOOL on Friday September 22 because of student-centered conferences.

IMPORTANT: Today blue forms came home in your child's Home Communication Folder. Please read through, fill out and send back all forms as soon as possible. We are so excited to be going on a week long OPEN MINDS field trip Oct 2-Oct6. There are so many places and things to learn downtown and in the Eau Claire area. Some areas that we talked about exploring today were:

It is so IMPORTANT that we have volunteers. Without having 3 per day minimum to meet ratios we might lose out on this wonderful learning experience. If you are able to volunteer any of the days please email me at imlagrana@cbe.ab.ca or let me know at Student Centered Conferences and I will put you on the schedule.

SAFETY WEEK PRACTICES

Today was an important day of practicing to be safe. We talked about "tricky" people and how to be safe and avoid danger. We started the morning with a practice evacuation to W.B. Pratt. It went very well and students were very serious throughout.

In the afternoon we had a practice lockdown. Our class was in the gym for lockdown. We got to practice where we go and what we do if we ever have a lockdown situation while our class is in the gym. Ask me what I learned?

IRIS

Most of us have updated our IRIS by adding in a learning comment in UNDERSTANDING MYSELF AS A LEARNER. Go to IRIS and see what helps me to succeed as a learner at school. We will be adding in learning goals next week.

MATH

This week in math we continued working on self-portraits using what we had learned last week about Symmetry to do new self-portraits using non-standard units to help us measure size of our facial features and distance from the line of Symmetry,  in order to have a more Symmetrical face.

Ask me what I used, from the classroom,  to measure my head, my eyes, my eyebrows, my nose, my lips, and finally my ears?

INQUIRY
Today in our Inquiry we posed the questions "Where is the Water". After looking at some pictures and practicing journaling our ideas, today we read a riddle about water and in our groups made posters including everything we know about water and where it comes from.
