Safety Week, Todd Parr and I See, I Think, I Wonder!

Reminder:

Forms are coming home today with some questions for you to answer about your child. If you could take a minute to fill these out and send them back to me before conference that would be greatly appreciated. If you have still not booked a conference time please do so at:

This is your chance to come and share with me all that you think it is important I know about your child in order to set them up for a successful year of learning.

Author Study

Last week we read "Its Ok to Be Different" and "Just Be Who you Are" by Todd Parr.

Todd Parr is a bestselling author who writes about feelings, differences, and that it is ok to be unique. Today we looked at how to draw like Todd using basic shapes and loud colors in order to draw like Todd.

We also talked about how we can know what a character is feeling by their facial expressions and how to show this in our sketches when we draw. We will be reading all of Todd Parr's books and making a mini book about Feelings to share with you.

FIREDRILL

Today we had a FIRE DRILL. It went well. We were in gym and had to practice being Safe, Smart, Serious and Silent when we have to get out of the building fast. This whole week is safety week at Royal Oak School and we will be having a practice evacuation to William B Pratt school and a practise Lockdown both on Wednesday September 20th, 2017. It is important that we practice so we know what to do in the event of an actual emergency.

I SEE...I THINK...I WONDER

Today we looked at a picture and talked about everything that we could see in that picture. We also talked about what we might think about the picture and what we wonder. This will be a journalling strategy that we will use when beginning something new that we want students to ponder deeply. When we go to OPENMINDS YMCA STRONGKIDS SCHOOL it will be a way to journal and reflect about what we are seeing everyday, learning and talking about each day.
