Strategies, Symmetry and Science!

Reminders:
Appropriate FOOTWEAR and CLOTHING

Please ensure that your child has weather appropriate outdoor shoes plus a pair of indoor shoes that stay at school. Now that the weather is getting cooler and wetter it is important that we help to keep our school clean and our feet warm and dry by having appropriate footwear. Rain jackets and umbrellas help when it is wet like today!

VOLUNTEERS:

We are having a field trip shortly OCTOBER 2-OCTOBER 6 at OPEN MINDS STRONG KIDS SCHOOL at the Eau Clair Gray Family YMCA. I will require a minimum of 3 volunteers per day and would love to have up to 5 per day. More information will be sent home next week. If you are interested please ensure that you have a valid security clearance on file with the school and if you are not sure check with Mrs. Jackson or Mrs. Braun in the office to see if yours is still valid. If you are interested in volunteering please email me at imlagrana@cbe.ab.ca

Reading
Today we continued practicing building our reading stamina. We got to 7 minutes! Our goal is 25 minutes. We are graphing our results. Ask me what I do to show independence when it is time for READ TO SELF.

We practiced two new reading strategies today:

Ask we how these strategies can help me figure out tricky words when I am reading?

Math

We read a book about Symmetry and listened to some songs to help us remember what it is.

We did a symmetry exploration around our classrooms to find things that had a line of symmetry.

Today we continued looked at symmetry. We used blocks to make symmetrical patters on our ladybugs. Ask me if the number 13 can be symmetrical? Why or why not?

We then used grid paper and and the line of symmetry to draw a symmetrical face.  Ask we what is important to do if I am trying to draw a symmetrical face?

Science

Today in Science learned about the Scientific Method.

We learned some important vocabulary to help us when we have scientific questions that we want to answer by conducting an experiment.

We listened to the SCIENTIFIC METHOD SONG to help us remember the vocabulary and steps!
