Cleaning the Classroom, Math Strategies, Story Writing and more...

We are busy starting to organize books and clean corners of our room that have not been cleaned in awhile!! As we prepare for the end of the year we are trying to clean up all of our math manipulative's for next year's students. If you are willing and able to come in one morning to run math manipulative's through the dishwasher and sort them out that would be greatly appreciated!

Please email me at imlagrana@cbe.ab.ca if you are willing to help.

MATH
We have been reviewing and practising multiple math addition and subtraction strategies. There are many to choose from. Ask me which ones I tried today.
If I am not sure if I have solved an equation accurately I can solve it using a different strategy.
If I get the same answer I know that I was accurate...if I don't get the same answer I know that I need to double check my work.

Here are a few that we have been practising:

Adventure Stories using Braidy Story Mapping

We have started writing a story about our insect and his adventures across Canada. We are using the Braidy model for organizing our story elements of Character, Setting, Kick-Off, Feelings, and STOPPED and made a PLAN!

Ask me about my plan? This is an example of what we had to write about today for OUR insect:

PAGE 3 of our Adventure Stories...

STOP AND MAKE A PLAN!
-Where will your bug go to find what they lost?
-Go across Canada on an adventure!
-Calgary, Iqaluit and Peggy’s Cove
-what will they pack?

“I have a plan!” said Mr. Bumbles. “I know just what I should do to find my lost stinger!!!” Mr. Bumbles decided that he would travel across Canada to find his stinger! Mr. Bumbles decided he would go to the communities of Calgary, Peggy’s Cove and Iqaluit to find that stinger. He had to pack some nectar in his suitcase,
We have written about our Character, Setting, Kick-Off, Internal Response (feelings) and our Plan so far using this template or story map.

Ask me about my story plan so far and how the Braidy story mapping helps me to plan my story?

SUMMER READING: CALGARY PUBLIC LIBRARY PRESENTATION:

Today we had a presentation from the Calgary Public Library about the Summer Reading Program. It is a great program for helping students remember to read over the summer. There are lots of great prizes and your child will be bringing home some information about it in their backpacks today.

Here is a link if you would like more information about the program:
