Book Report Fun, Triple Venn Diagrams and Paper Mache Insects!!

Reminder: Tomorrow is the last day to bring in money for bracelets. Please bring in a toonie to support our Naturalization Project.

Charlotte's Web Final Culminating Project:

Today we talked about creating a final project to display our learning from our Novel Study of Charlotte's Web. We brainstormed some ideas about how we could share our learning.

We talked about what a book report can include in it and how it is usually done at the end of reading a novel or chapter book.

We talked about including:
Title
Author
Characters and Character Description (Appearance, age, behaviours) Who was my favorite character and why?
Setting (Visualizing)
Connections I had to the book (what did this book remind me of or make me think about?) or (How did this book or part of the book make me feel? Why?
Favorite scene or part of the book
Summary The most important 3-4 parts of the book in order from beginning to end
Did you like this book? Why or why not?
Rating/Review how many ***** would you give/rate this book? Why?

Here are some of our ideas for how we can display or learning:

Paper Bag Book Reports

Pizza Box Book Reports

Paper Bag Booklets

Dioramas

Flip Flop File Folder Book Reports

We have some materials at school but if you know that you want to do a Diorama or a Pizza Box  please bring in accordingly. I have file folders and paper bags already and two extra shoeboxes at school.

Social Studies

We continued working on our Triple Venn Diagram! It has three circles instead of two so that we can COMPARE/CONTRAST the 3 Canadian Communities we have learned about this year.

We colour coded our Venn Diagrams so that it was easy to see which parts were for which kind of information.

We used the information that we had collected and brainstormed about each community from our Brochures to help us fill in our Venn Diagrams.

Ask me which parts were the hardest to fill in?
Did the colour coding help me? Why or why not?

Science/Art

Today we taped our legs to our paper mache bumblebee! We used wire and straws to create the legs and masking tape to secure them to the thorax and abdomen.

Then we had to flip our insect over and bend the legs so that they could stand. If we didn't flip them over then the legs ended up bent the wrong way and our bugs looked like dead ones instead of crawling on flowers, alive ones!!!

Our last step was to paper mache the legs with small strips and anywhere that tape was showing. Once this dries we will be able to paint our creations and add antennas and wings.

Paper mache sure is messy! But so much fun. Our bees will look amazing when we are all done!
