Last Day of Artist in Residence, Reading like a Scientist, Expert Visit and Public Art

Reminder: Friday November 10th will be our Remembrance Day Assembly. It will begin at 10:15 am. Any students that are a member of a service group such as Cubs, Girl Guides, etc., are invited to wear their uniform as part of the Remembrance Day ceremony on Friday, November 10.

Artist in Residence

We have been so lucky to work with a very talented Artist Mrs. F. Today was our last day of Artist in Residence and we finished our works of art.

Today student's had to look at their original wetlands watercolour with animal pathways and decide where to put their dirt and buildings. They had to think about which animal it might impact and how it could impact the wetlands. They could cut up their dirt so that it had less impact and they could make bridges to help protect their animals.

The students then had to decide on their final plan for roads, buildings, houses and bridges and glue it all down in a way that they felt would impact the wetlands as positively as possible.

The student's are so excited to share their final works of art and the planning process with you at our Celebration of Learning.
Reading Like a Scientist/LITERACY

This week we will be continuing to focus on reading like a scientist. We are focusing on Important scientific topics such as dispersion, leeching, water run-off, absorption, groundwater contamination and water pollution. This week we are focusing on Fluency and Accuracy as two strategies from our Literacy Cafe:

Fluency: Reread Text:

Accuracy: Skip the Word. Then Come Back to it:

Water Testing Expert:

Today we were fortunate to have a special guest speaker. He is a Environmental Scientist whose job it is to test water. He explained so much to us about Groundwater and water testing.

He explained that there are different reasons for testing water and depending on the reason then different tests that you could do:

Charlotte's Web: Today we finished reading Chapter 17: UNCLE

Science

Today was our last day of trying to clean our dirty water. We tried using sand and charcoal. Ask me if my water's TURBIDITY improved or not and why I think yes or no?
