Book Orders came home today. If you would like to place an order online or send one in with a cheque please do so by Wednesday February 5th, 2020 in order to allow sufficient time for ordering and recieving back before Valentines Day.

Literacy
3-2-1Summarzing!!
This week we have continued practicing summariing using a 3-2-1 graphic organizer:
Please read the Polar Bear Facts sheet and fill out the accompanying 3-2-1 graphic organizer. We will be using this 3-2-1 style of sumarizing for reading but also for when we take notes watching a video or listening to a story.
Math
Adding Double Digit Numbers With Regrouping
This week we have continued practicing adding double digits using base ten and place value mats. We have then practiced putting this work into our math books in an organized and efficient way.
First we build our two double-digit numbers. Eventually we will not need to build anymore and can just draw or represent our thinking with numerals but for now it helps us to understand what is happening with the place value when we need to regroup.
Don't forget to cross out your old amount of tens and add in the new one for a new number. Also don't forget that all those ones you circled to ake a new ten and now gone. Don't recount them they moved on to ten street!

Many students have asked if I would pt these base ten virtual manpulative's on the blog so that they can practice at home. They should still be practicing on paper as well to learn the orgaization of their math with paper and pencil but this is also a fun way to practice. After clicking on the link choose:

Heat and Temperature
We have been starting to talk about what we know about Heat and Temperature. We grouped items into Hot or Cold based on things that we knew. We also noticed that some things such as a classroom might fall into hot or cold depending on the season.
We also looked at home thermometers work and are excited to begin working with them and practicing using them to measure heat.

We have been talking about how we different tools are used to measure different things such as rulers, number lines, thermometers, scales etc.
The students were very interested in thermomstat's and how they are used to turn up or down a house or buildings heat. We have been watching our classroom thermostat and recording the temperature it is at everyday. If you are able please visit your home thermostat with your child and write down what your home temperature is normally, plus visit where the furnace in your home is. We will be having a tour of the school to find out where our school heating comes from.
Arctic Stories
Today we read the Arctic story called "A Promise is a Promise" by Robert Munsch and Micheal Kusugak:

Listening to all of these Arctic stories and thinking about the parts of the story will help us when we begin to create a storyboard for our own Arctic Story next week.
