Physical Education
Dear Parents and Guardians
We have started our gymnastics unit in our regularly scheduled Physical Education classes. This unit will run until the end of January. Safety procedures are being carefully covered with each class. While students in elementary school are not expected to change their clothing for gym, I do talk to them about being dressed in preparation to participate. Please consider the following when sending your child to school:
• Clothing that allows freedom of movement (no special uniforms or outfits are required – sweats and a t-shirt work best).
• Loose fitting/baggy clothing may get caught on equipment when climbing.
• Tucking shirts in may help to prevent an accident.
• All jewelry that could get caught on equipment should be removed (left in classrooms or left at home). e.g. watches, rings, necklaces, etc...
• Students with long hair should have their hair tied back. Tying hair back with elastics is recommended.
• Students may wear shorts under clothing if they wish.
• Students will participate in bare feet unless there is a medical reason (warts).
Please be aware that students have Physical Education class each day. Students will be reminded that they must remain very quiet while participating on the climbing equipment. Sudden noises could startle a student using the equipment and result in a fall.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to email me. Thank you in advance for your understanding in helping to ensure the safety of our students.
Sincerely,
Helen Hennick
Welcome back. Hopefully your break was restful and full of fun and family! Welcome to 2020!!
2 Stars and a Wish...
This week we will be watching each other's videos on IRIS. Thank you to those who have already posted this to IRIS. We will be watching for our peers fluency and giving contstructive feedback for next time. If you have not posted your video of yourself Reading Like a NewsReporter please do so this week as we would like to have watched all of these videos by this upcoming Friday. If you have trouble posting feel free to email me the video at imlagrana@cbe.ab.ca and I can post it with your child from school.
Math Patterns Review and Centres
This week we will be reviewing what we have learned about Repeating and Growing patterns.
We will be participating in patterns centres that allow us to review the concepts about patterns that we were learning before winter break.
Ask me what my job was at patterns centres in math today?
Magnetic Inventions
On Monday we reviewed what we have learned so far this year about Magnets and the forces of attraction and repulsion. After brainstorming some different examples of how magents are used in the real world, and then watching some videos of everyday magentic inventions we have been challenged to come up with a magnetic invention that will use the force of attration or repulsion or both in order to solve a problem.
We designed an initial prototype and labeled our design, our materials needed, and what problem or job this magnetic invention is going to do.
After building our design we will then get to test it and share our ideas with the class. We are working in groups of 4 or 5 to design and build our prototype. If your child has specific materials they would like to use that are not on the list above please feel free to send them in.
