Word Work, Homework and Building our Boats!

Author Visit

Yesterday we were lucky to have an author visit to celebrate Literacy Week! Her name is Pamela McDowell. She writes nonfiction book and fictional stories based on real life events. She read us a small part of one of her books Salamander Rescue:

She writes fictional stories with a main character named Cricket who helps solve problems some Animals in the wild are facing.

Some other books in this collection are:

Word Work

We have been practicing high frequency sight words for the past few weeks. We practice spelling some words and then noting the patterns and sounds certain combinations of vowels or letters make. We have also been using rhyming to help us come up with more words that follow certain patterns.

This week we worked on ir, er, ur sounds

It is fun to practice coming up with rhyming words that follow the same pattern or word family.

Literacy Homework

This week Literacy homework came home in your child's Home Communication Folder. Please follow the parent pipeline on building inferencing skills and answer the comprehension questions attached using the lined paper.

Boat Designs

This week we re-designed our boats. Please ensure you send specific supplies that your child is wanting to build with by Tuesday May 14th. We will begin re-building on Tuesday and testing our new or updated designs on Thursday.
