Designing our Boats

Science


Today we finished our Science Rotations. We looked at the definition of Waterproof and participated in a scientific experiment to test which materials would repel water and which ones might absorb it.

We talked about what materials are and that they have different properties. Today we were looking for the property of waterproofness or that the material would be able to repel the water:

Now that we have investigated and experimented with all of these scientific topics related to boats and buoyancy we are ready to begin planning, designing and building boats!

Please help your child bring in a few waterproof materials to design and build with next week:

Pop bottles
Saran Wrap
Meat trays
balloons
string
tinfoil
straws
popsicle sticks
yogurt containers
margarine containers
plastic fruit containers
small lids
small milk cartons-1 L or smaller and cut if possible
