Welcome Back, Preparing for our Celebration of Learning and Calculating Perimeter!

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a relaxing break! I was so excited to see how many of you did the Book Talk book reports on google slides over break and shared them with me. We will be sharing these throughout the week. I can't wait to read some of your recommendations as it is always fun to read a book someone else thinks highly of!

Reminders: Book orders went home yesterday. Please ensure you order online or send in your paper orders by April 14th.

Today forms came home for BOKS. Please read the white information letter and if it is something that you are interested in for your child please fill out the blue forms and return to the school asap as space is limited.

Celebration of Learning Preparations
This week we are preparing for our Celebration of Learning. We are completing our Google Docs for Oreo Writing, our Arctic Stories and Sharing our Google Slides on Polar Bear/Seal research with the class. We are also creating a visual mini-trifold to share our work with you at Celebration of Learning on April 12th at 6pm. Please mark your calendars for this important and inspiring evening of sharing.
I will not be posting many pictures about this as it is TOP SECRET! We do not want to spoil the surprise!

MATH

We have been reviewing the rules for a square and rules for a rectangle.

Yesterday we read a unique version of "The Three Little Pigs". We then had the challenge to build each of the different pig's houses and given the length and width to determine the perimeter of each of their homes.

We then were given materials (non-standard units) to build these homes such as popsicle sticks, paper clips, blocks, toothpicks, and q-tips. After building we had to then figure out the perimeter using the equation A+B+C+D=Perimeter.

Today we continued this activity only this time our challenge was to use standard measurements such as cm or m depending on what we were measuring. We had to create a square that was 6 non-standard units on all sides and then a square that was 6 standard units.

We also looked at the difference between measuring in cm, mm and m.

We also looked at some important steps to remember when we are measuring:

Were my measurements the same in non-standard versus standard measurements? What did I notice? What was difficult for my group about this challenge?

Tomorrow we will be coming up with and learning about RULES of a TRIANGLE!!

Flex Grouping Begins...

Today we got to go to our first Flex Grouping in Grade 2. This is where all of the grade 2 students have selected a first and second choice. These groups are all doing something about the Arctic that we will share with you at our Celebration of Learning. Ask me what group I am in:

Music Video Group

Diorama Group

Baker's Blankets Group
