Reminder: Scholastic Book orders are due by This Friday, April 13th. I think I accidentally dated them to be due on Saturday, April 14th but I will place any orders that come in on Friday, April 13th so please ensure you have placed your online order by then or sent in your paper order to me by this Friday.

MATH
Triangles

Yesterday we looked deeper into the differences between Equilateral, Isosceles and Scalene Triangles.

We had the opportunity to build all three kinds using non-standard units and standard units.

Ask me what was difficult about trying to use non-standard units for the Scalene triangle?

We practiced measuring with a cm ruler to compare the length of each side of our triangles.

We also had to label each triangle with a title and all of its important parts.

Ask me which triangle I found the easiest to build, draw and measure? Which one did I find the hardest? Why?

We then were challenged to use shapes and folding to make a paper airplane!

We used tally marks to keep a record of how many triangles, rectangles, and squares we could find in our paper after each new fold.

We got to test them out and see whose plane flew the furthest and the straightest!

Haiku

Yesterday we learned about a form of poetry called HAIKU.

We practiced counting syllables by clapping them out.

We decided to write our own Haiku poems using the Arctic as our inspiration. We brainstormed all of the things that we could write about in the Arctic and did a planning sheet:

Tomorrow we will use our brainstormed descriptive words and create our own Haiku Poems.
These were two examples we looked at:

Today we had an Assembly about JUMP ROPE for HEART

The information came home today in your child's Home Communication Folder. We will be practicing building our skipping skills and stamina all week in the gym. April 25th is the last day for forms to be returned. There are lots of great PRIZES for participation!!
