Dear Parents and Students,
You are invited to the grade 2 students’ Celebration of Learning on Thursday January 24th from 6-7. Your child has been working extremely hard to prepare for this Celebration of Learning and is excited to share their learning with you. Please make sure to also bring a cash donation of $5 (minimum) in order to receive a digital copy of the Grade 2’s amazing Search for Delicious Recipe book. Your donation will go directly to the Calgary Food Bank. You are also welcome to bring a non-perishable food item donation.

Literacy Groups
Strategy: I can improve my reading by Extending my Vocabulary:
Today we looked at our articles to find words that we did not know the meaning of. We circled these words and then gathered as a group to review this video about using a dictionary.

We then used book dictionaries and practiced using the online Dictionary Tool to help us figure out the meaning of new words.
We will continue practicing using dictionaries online and book form as a way to help us increase our reading comprehension.
We also continued using CLUES in the text to help us figure out the MAIN IDEA of what we are reading. This week we have been reading articles about the ARCTIC. Ask me something I learned or what the MAIN IDEA of the article I read is?
OUR COOKBOOK!
Illustrating our Grade 2 Search for Delicious Cookbook!
Today we thought of a special picture we could create to go in our Search for Delicious Grade 2 Cookbook. It could be a picture of the food itself or a picture of where it came from, or even a picture of us preparing the food with a special family member.
We used crayons to color in our art work.
Each of these illustrations will be compiled into one big class collage and used as a page in our cookbook. You can preview these cookbooks at our upcoming Celebration of Learning and donate to add your nam to the list to receive the link to download the entire book. We are so excited to share this with you!
Math Timelines
Yesterday we discussed important events of Calgary's past. We focused on the 1800s to start with. These were some dates that we remembered from looking like a Historian into the past:
We then were challenged to map out these dates, in sequential order from oldest date to newest date on a timeline.
We discussed how a timeline is just like a number line only it is using important dates. These dates are still numbers. We can use these numbers to do mathematical equations.
Tomorrow we will continue to map out these dates and be challenged to:
