Literacy

Summarizing Nonfiction

This week we have been reading articles and using the think mark of the * to indicate all of the most important parts of what we are reading. We then worked in our reading groups to fill out a nonfiction summary graphic organizer.

We also had to make note of any new and interesting words that we did not know the meaning of. This week we will also be practicing using an online dictionary to help us figure out words we are not sure of. This is a way to Expand our Vocabulary when we read.

Magnetic Inventions

Yesterday and today we got to build our magnetic inventions. We worked hard to make our inventions become reality. We also had time to adapt or change our inventions if we had thought of something different or had new ideas while building. We also used a rubric to decide how well we had done for different aspects of our invention:

Ask me how I felt my group did? What would I add or change for next time?

Book Talks

Today we finished reading our class novel "The Search for Delicious". We were challenged to come up with a book cover that would capture the perspective readers attention. Tomorrow we will log into GoogleSlides for the first time to upload a picture of our new cover page. We will also be learning about creating a book talk or book review on google slides as a way of sharing something we have read.

Math

Number Lines

Yesterday we read the book Bisabuelo Gregorio by Katherine Fosnot. It is all about a little 8 year old boy Carlos and how he becomes curious to know how old all the members of his family were when he was born.

We practiced using a number line to figure this out:

Tomorrow we will continue to practice using number line strategies and reviewing Hops (10s) Skips (5s) and Jumps (1s) to move efficiently on a number line.

We will continue looking at the difference between two numbers and using adding to figure this out.
