NO SCHOOL TOMORROW
Reminder: Tomorrow is a Professional Development Day. There is no School! Enjoy your extra long weekend and we will see you Monday January 29th.

Today we had so much fun wearing our pajamas, reading our favorite books and showing off our favorite stuffy!

Thank you for participating in a successful and memorable LITERACY WEEK.

Literacy Strategy: Improving our Accuracy by Increasing our Sight Word Recognition:

Sight Words

Please go over the sight words that your child brings home. These are words that they are practising being able to recognize by sight and spell correctly in their writing. Practice the strategies below from the Parent Pipeline as ways of reinforcing these words in their Reading and Writing. They can also write the words they are working on out on paper 4 or 5 times in different colours or using Rainbow Writing to reinforce the spelling as well as the recognition.

Rainbow Writing of Sight Words:

Science
Today in Science we reviewed what makes a water molecule.

We passed around cups full of water in it's 3 states:

Liquid Water

Solid Water-ICE

Water Vapor-Gas

We noticed some differences between water liquid, water as a solid, and water as a gas:

What causes a solid to turn into a liquid??

What causes a liquid to turn into a gas??

We will be exploring these questions in greater detail next week.

Arctic Stories

We watched an Arctic Story called "The Owl and The Raven: An Inuit Legend

You can watch it again here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xhWWdGm8fE

We had to fill out our Arctic Story sheets about Characters, Setting, Problem, Solution, Magic and Finally what lesson was this Arctic Story teaching us?

Why would this story have been important and told to Inuit Children generation after generation? What was the story explaining?
