Sentence Sam, Power of Ten Card Games, Calgary in the Past!

PIZZA PARTY!!!!

We were so excited to learn yesterday that our class won the Pumpkin challenge contest at Sobey's. Our Charlotte's Web pumpkin won first prize for Grade 2. This means that we will receive a PIZZA PARTY for our Classroom! More details will follow soon! YAY we are so excited!!

What is a Sentence?

Today we looked at some sentences...
We investigated what must be in a simple sentence:

We practised finding complete sentences and recognizing if they had all the Simple Sam Sentence requirements?

See if I can write you a simple sentence?
We will be working on building simple and then more complex sentences throughout the next few weeks.

Math

In math we played an adding tens game. We have been looking at Rainbow Facts: Addition facts the equal to ten:

These rainbow facts can help us when we are adding bigger two and three digit numbers:

We played Power of Ten Face Off which helps us learn to quickly add a ten to whatever number we flip over. The quicker we are at seeing these numbers and putting a ten on, the more it will help us t be able to add quickly and efficiently when we work with bigger numbers:

Calgary in the Past:

Today we looked at pictures of artifacts from the past. We had to look at the pictures closely, sketch them and write about what we noticed and what we think the object might have been used for?

Ask me what I noticed about the pictures I looked at today? What do I think they were? What do I think that this item might have been used for? Do we have this item now in the Present? Does it look the same? different? How?

Today we made our first card for our package of cards that we will be selling at the Royal Oak School Christmas Market. Please come by on Saturday December 9th from 1 pm-4pm and be sure to visit the Grade 2 Table to pick up some beautiful handmade cards and help support the charity/organization Ryan's Wells:

We made button ornament cards.

Tomorrow we will make Reindeer and Snowman Cards.

Thursday we are making Santa Cards. We will then package our cards into bundles of 4 and sell them for $5.00 a bundle at the Royal Oak Christmas Craft Sale. We are very excited about showing our spirit of global citizenship and striving to contribute to making a change where we want to see it!

We hope to see you there!
