Remembrance Day Assembly

Royal Oak School’s Remembrance Day Assembly will be on Thursday, November 10th at 10:45am. All families are welcome to join us. Students involved in Scouts, Girl Guides etc. are welcome to wear their uniforms during our assembly.

All students will be receiving poppies on Thursday. We welcome any donations for the Calgary Poppy Fund to help support local veterans.

Looking for Volunteers for the Wee Read Program:
Wee Read is about reading aloud and sharing the joy of reading with kindergarten and Grade 1 students. Reading volunteers would need to commit to 30 minutes per week for 8 weeks. In this 30 minutes, volunteers will have the opportunity to work with two students either in Kindergarten or Grade 1.

If you are interested in volunteering for this program, a valid police clearance through the CBE is required. Interested volunteers are asked to please attend a Wee Reads training session on November 8th from 10:30am-11:30am or November 10th from 2:30pm-3:30pm. Both training sessions will be offered at Royal Oak School. If you are interested in attending, please contact Sandi Harrower at slharrower@cbe.ab.ca and RSVP by Monday evening, November 7th.
Reminder: Please remember to bring back your blue forms about the Sound Kreations performance. Notices went home on Friday and need to be returned to school right away so tickets can be distributed.

Reminder: Book orders are due back on Thursday November 10th. Scholastic has changed their policy now so that the order must be a total of $25 or higher in order to not charge any shipping fees.

Reminder: Today when we did read to self and read to someone we got to read a special newspaper about Animals in War. We got to bring the newspaper home, maybe we can read it together?

Today we had our third science rotation. Mrs. Lagrana’s class went to Mrs. Hansen’s class to learn about Density. We had salt water, baking soda water sugar water and plain water. We dropped different things into the water solutions to see which object came up to the top of the water more. We were testing if different things mixed into the water can affect density.

Today we read a new Todd Parr book called “Be Who You Are”. Mrs. Lagrana got to meet him at her Conference and he is going to be writing us a letter answering all of our questions about his writing and illustrations.

In math we worked on our Halloween Candy inventory problem. We used a number line to help us count or triangle math or ten frames. Ask me what my group and I figured out? We also did a math forum to see other peoples work and strategies and ask them questions about their work.

Today we talked about using Yellow, Red and Green cut out circles at our groups to let the teacher know if we are ok, need a little help or are stuck when we are working. Tomorrow we will get to try them out!

In gym we did some cool dancing. We did Bollywood! Maybe I can show you my favourite new move!
