Inferring, Number Bonds and Waterproofing!!

Literacy

In literacy we are continuing to work on making inferences from what we have read:

We also looked at the difference between clues we might find in nonfiction text versus fiction.

When we read nonfiction text we can often look for text features as clues to help us infer.

We will continue practicing this important comprehension skill next week.

Number Bond Strategy

This week we have been practicing using a new strategy for subtracting.

Using number bonds to subtract:

Practice the way your child likes, and is most comfortable with at home so they can explain their math thinking and share what they know.

We have also been practicing our basic subtraction facts to twenty. It is very helpful when we are working with double digit numbers to know those facts.

Science

Waterproofing Experiment!!
Yesterday we investigated different materials and which ones were waterproof and repelled water and which ones were NOT waterproofing and absorbed the water.

Different Materials have different properties!

Next week we will think about what we learned and how we can use this knowledge to help us re-design our boats.
